A group of addiction doctors published a letter blasting safe supply, but their affiliations omitted commercial interests that may give a glimpse into their motivations.
Here is one of many statistics I have. Last year at least 22 people in BC were directly killed by BCs safe drug supply. None of these 22 people who died from overdose of hydromorphone (Dilaudid) had a prescription for it so I wonder where they got it from? This is not an illegally made drug, there is almost no doubt that these pills were diverted from the safe drug supply. In addition there are dozens of cases of people dying from fentanyl overdose shortly after picking up their safe drug supply. In most cases the safe drug was not found in toxicology screens of the victims. If one takes the time to pour through coroners reports it is pretty obvious that these pills from safe supply are being diverted where they kill and addict others while supplying the person to whom they were prescribed the money to purchase the fentanyl which ultimately kills them. I have reams of hard data and am working with others to find more details. It is unfortunate but many do not want the data to be discovered and throw up ridiculous statements when asked simple questions. I want a solution as much as anyone else and I care about the lives being lost but after decades of steadily rising deaths it is obvious that the strategy and experts involved have failed miserably.
dude, calm down. hydromorphone is widely prescribed for pain. very little of it comes from safe supply prescribing. look up the total prescribing of it and compare with the safe supply programs. safe supply is a drop in the bucket.

Here is another piece for you. The Vancouver police busted some gang bangers from Oakland in a downtown hotel room. In their possession 7600 hydromoprhone pills which sell for a bundle in California. Geez I wonder where those came from. I can go Main and Hastings and buy as many diverted pills at a buck each as my heart desires. If you have data that proves that the bulk of diverted pills come from people taking it for pain then share it. I also forgot to tell you that in one of the hydromorphone ODs the victim still had the pill bottle in his pocket with the name of the person to whom it was prescribed. That person died of a fentanyl OD the same day the prescription was filled. Pretty obvious the pills got sold and the money used for fentanyl. There is no evidence that our strategy is preventing drug deaths. In fact the opposite is occurring. Each year brings a new OD record. IN any other profession these experts would be punted to the curb with a record like that. In addition they openly refuse to do research that will show the effectiveness of lack thereof for safer supply. These safe supply/Vancouver model experts travel the world speaking at seminars and reaping large consulting fees. I know, I saw them in the Netherlands and they were outright lying about the success of the Vancouver model. The pictures they showed were no even of the DEST. When I sent my Dutch friends video of east Hastings there were in shock. They could not believe that the Vancouver model experts and me were even talking about the same place!
